The sixth season of The Walking Dead is going to be “more intense than ever,” according to its creator, Robert Kirkman. The popular horror-drama TV series will returns tonight on at 9 pm/8pm central with an extended 90-minute episode.
Robert appeared at New York Comic-Con this week to talk about the hit series among a large crowd of fans, noting that this will be “the most intense season of ‘The Walking Dead’ yet,” adding “the first few episodes hit the ground running, and there’ll be pretty big cliffhangers at the end of every episode.”
When asked whether we’ll see other settlements aside from Alexandria this season, the show’s creator scoffed, “I can’t answer that, but good try. Would anyone like to see the other communities introduced?” As the crowd enthusiastically roared, he nodded. “Alright, we’ll do it.”
He wasn’t exactly clear about whether or not fans will see Negan in this season, with more of a wait-and-see kind of attitude. Robert only responded, “I think it’d be cool for Negan to be introduced into the show, I don’t know when that’ll happen. I mean, I do, but I can’t tell you.”
Executive producer Greg Nicotero, who creates all of the zombies seen on the show, and sometimes even appears as one himself, recently told Entertainment Weekly that there are going to be massive numbers of walkers this season, giving the audience something they’ve never seen before.
In this season, he said, the walkers and the walker threat is definitely more of a featured character than a secondary character, underlining that the show isn’t just a show about zombies, it’s more than that – and, in this season that’s going to be more relevant and more prevalent than in the past.
Catch the 90-minute premier tonight at 9pm/8pm central on AMC.
