More than a decade after the last episode of The Office aired in the UK, Ricky Gervais is bringing the character of David Brent to the big screen.
Originally airing in 2001 in the UK, The Office was so successful that as well as being broadcast globally, it was sold to broadcasters in over 80 countries.
English comedian/actor/producer Ricky (who has recently starred in Muppets Most Wanted and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb) was an executive producer on the US version of the show in its early days.
Now the cringeworthy character he played on the British version is back – and determined to be a rock star – in the film Life on the Road.
The film will follow David Brent as he takes a two-week break from his current life of selling cleaning and ladies hygiene products to film a ‘rockumentary’ based on his UK tour with band Foregone Conclusion.
The film will concentrate a lot more on David Brent’s private life – a side that viewers of The Office rarely got to see.
“I’m so excited that the world will see what David Brent is up to now and where his future lies,” Ricky said of the film.
The star has also penned some songs for the Brent character, which will no doubt be humorous in an unintentionally incorrect sort of way!
Life on the Road is set for release August 2016.
