The 2016 Grammy Awards take place live on tonight at Staples Center, in Los Angeles.
Taylor Swift has confirmed that she will commence the proceedings by singing live. ‘Swifties’ are having fun predicting which song she will open with, with a strong possibility the choice or mix will be from her 1989 album.
Naturally, there is a lot of buzz surrounding Taylor Swift at the moment. Although she has already won seven Grammys in the past, she has been nominated in no less than seven categories this year, including Best Music Video (“Bad Blood”) and Album of the Year (1989).
Taylor Swift’s opening performance is bound to get people talking, following her emotional performance of “All Too Well” back in 2014; and who can forget back at the 2009 VMA’s when she was interrupted by Kanye West whilst making a speech accepting an award?
Kendrick Lamar (who features on Taylor’s “Bad Blood” song) has been nominated in a staggering eleven categories including Best Rap Album (To Pimp a Butterfly) and Best Rap Performance (“Alright”).
Monday’s Grammys will be the 58th ceremony which celebrates music achievement. It will be hosted by rapper LL Cool J for the fifth time.
There will be musical performances as a tribute to David Bowie and Lemmy Kilmister who both tragically passed away this year, performed by Lady Gaga and The Hollywood Vampires (Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper and Joe Perry). There will also be tributes honoring B B King and Glenn Frey.
Other star musical performers will include Adele, Rihanna and Justin Bieber. It will be interesting to see if Justin Bieber will give an emotional performance too.
Meghan Trainor, who narrowly missed out on the deadline last year, is being tipped as Best New Artist, but with James Bay also in the same category the prediction is a tough one to make.
People can no doubt expect Lady Gaga to wear something out of this world, as in the past she has arrived on the famous red carpet in space themed outfits.
You can tune into the Grammys tonight at 8pm EST on CBS.
