A Spice Girls reunion, complete with new music, has been in talks for quite some time now, but it looks like it’s finally happening. Melanie Brown (Scary Spice) teased fans with a very exciting photo of herself, Geri Horner (Ginger Spice) and Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) on Instagram on Wednesday.
The trio were on their way to a recording studio in North London where they are allegedly recording new material and planning something very special to mark the Spice Girls’ 20th anniversary.
Mel B told Britain’s Mirror newspaper, “It’s funny, because back in the day, people thought we had everything written for us, but we’ve always written all our own songs.”
While Mirror has reported that there will be an upcoming album and tour, nothing has officially been announced by any of the girls. In fact, remarkably absent from the news were Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice) and Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice).
Earlier this year amid rumors of a potential reunion, Billboard reported that Victoria Beckham’s participation would not be a possibility due to a rep reporting that “her focus is now very much her family and fashion business.”
Although in the past Mel B had stated she would not do a reunion without all five Spice Girls, it seems the show must go on, with or without Posh Spice.
“We definitely want to do something because it’s a celebration of us still doing our thing 20 years on and us being a part of each other, so we’ll see what happens,” said Mel B in an interview on Britain’s ITV show Lorraine with Lorraine Kelly.
Whatever happens, an announcement is likely to happen by July, which is when their first single “Wannabe” was released in 1996.
