If you missed out on the first two seasons of Peaky Blinders, it might just be the best show you’re not watching. The BBC-produced show became available on Netflix in 2014, and fans have been enduring a long, agonizing wait for the third season, which began filming last fall and wrapped up this January.

The drama about a post-World War I gang, set in 1920’s Birmingham, England, was just confirmed to be returning to television in early May. As well, Netflix will be bringing it exclusively to the U.S.

If you haven’t seen it, Peaky details a violent, whiskey-swilling family, the Shelby’s, as they attempt to establish their gambling and boozing empire. They have a long-term plan to go “legit,” which of course,  sees them stalked by the police as well as rival gangs.

The real Peaky Blinders, a term which refers to their habit of sewing razor blades into the peak of their flat caps to use as weapons, were a Birmingham criminal gang, who mostly stole, drank and fought their way through the early 20th Century. The show is a fictionalized account that’s engagingly written and set to a powerful soundtrack, using traditional Irish folk songs as well as modern contributions from the likes of The Arctic Monkeys, Nick Cave and PJ Harvey.

For season 3, all the main gang will be back to play the Shelby family, led by Cillian Murphy as Thomas Shelby. Paddy Considine is joining the cast as a nemesis for the Shelby’s, alongside returning actors Helen McCrory as Aunt Polly, Tom Hardy as Alfie Solomons, Annabelle Wallis as Grace Burgess and Charlotte Riley as May Carlton.

Unfortunately, Sam Neill as Major Chester Campbell, the officer who was determined to bring down the gang and who was unquestionably killed at the end of season 2, will not be returning.

We don’t know a lot about the upcoming season, other than it will move forward two years to 1925, opening with Tommy’s wedding day; but just who the bride is, is still unknown. Is it Grace, his true love whom he asked to marry at the end of the last season after she told him she was pregnant with his child? Or did Tommy decide to choose his career over love and marry a well-connected woman instead?

We’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out, but at least there is finally a light at the end of that long, dark tunnel.
