As part of the 32nd anniversary of the original Ghostbusters film, and in anticipation of the reboot being released in July, the cast of both films reunited on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Wednesday evening.
The cast members from the 1984 film who were present included Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts, while the cast from the reboot included Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.
One of the features of the reunion included both casts dancing to the Ghostbusters theme song performed by Ray Parker Jr. The original cast also described the origins of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man to Jimmy Kimmel.
This version of Ghostbusters has been heavily criticized for including an all-female cast, which is drastically different from the original. However, Bill Murray made it a point to defend the decision.
“I couldn’t be happier. These girls did a really good job. I can call them girls because I’m a boy,” he explained.
Bill then went on to express he had concerns in the beginning but, “Danny, and I, and Annie, and Ernie were just screaming, cheering, like we were at a sporting event at the end of it.”
The new Ghostbusters film will premiere July 15 in theaters everywhere and will feature cameos from the original cast, including Sigourney Weaver who also starred in the 1984 release.
