2. It’s a Wonderful Life
Many will argue that this should rate as #1, and it is hard to disagree. To call this 1946 movie iconic, classic, and must-see is putting it mildly. The first movie that James Stewart made upon returning home from service as a pilot in WWII, it is the heartbreakingly wonderful story of a man who gets to see the answer to “what if”.
George Bailey (Stewart), finds himself in a horrible conundrum on Christmas Eve and contemplates suicide in order to provide his family with the money they will need. A rather haphazard guardian angel steps in to save the day, and the result is film magic. There are rarely any dry eyes in the house by the time the film comes to an end, and some of the sequences that don’t even touch on Christmas have become some of the most famous scenes in movie history.
You’ll soon add “Buffalo Gals won’t you come out to tonight….aaannnddd dance by the light of the moon,” to your favorite holiday songs!
