Wednesday morning, the world awoke to find the name of Kanye’s new album had changed yet again. From So Help Me God to SWISH to Waves and finally The Life of Pablo, Kanye West shed each name like a piece of his persona. However, The Life of Pablo seems like it’s here to stay. He even released the album art to prove it.
The highly anticipated album does not have an official release date yet, but those lucky enough to attend Thursday’s sold out Yeezy Season 3 event were among the first to hear it. Taking place during New York Fashion Week, the event was part unconventional fashion show, part listening party, and part performance art; a cultural mish mash that was perfectly Kanye.
Fans, friends, and family filled Madison Square Garden in New York City where Kanye plugged his laptop into one of the best sound systems in the world. The ten track album includes appearances by Ty Dolla $ign, Kid Cudi, Future, and even the reclusive Frank Ocean who contributes vocal on “Wolves.”
Also presumably part of the show, Kanye’s wife and reality star, Kim Kardashian-West, showed up with her family dressed all in white with enormous fur coats. Images of Kanye and Kim’s daughter, North, were projected on the jumbotron screen as the Kardashians made an entrance with their entourage, the last piece of the puzzle before the main event.
While Kanye is first and foremost a musical artist, his foray into the world of fashion has reached a high level of importance in his life. During the album premiere, a huge billowing piece of fabric in the middle of the arena was unveiled to reveal a group of models standing stationary and wearing the Yeezy Season 3 collection. The models were part of a performance piece staged by Italian artist Vanessa Beecroft and were subject to a long list of rules, which were soon after posted to Twitter.

Before the show ended, Kanye had one more gift to give to the world. He showed footage from a video game called Only One: The Game, which showed his late mother, Donda, as an angel entering heaven. While certainly a sweet gesture, the purpose of the game or what platform it will debut on has yet to be shared.
Although no exact date has been announced, The Life of Pablo will be available on Tidal followed by releases on iTunes and other streaming services.
