The Jack Ryan franchise is being passed from movies to TV and will star John Krasinski in the title role.
Those who know John Krasinski for his role as the mild-mannered Jim Halpert on the sitcom The Office may find this news a bit surprising, but John recently starred in the biographical war movie, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, as Jack Da Silva, a former Navy Seal. To prepare for the film, John stuck to a strict training regime to ensure he looked the part but could also handle the action sequences.
The most recent of the five movies that involve the character Jack Ryan was Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. This starred Chris Pine as Jack Ryan and was an original story based on the themes of the Tom Clancy novels. The other four movies were adaptations of his novels.
The other actors who have played the role of Jack Ryan on the big screen are Alec Baldwin, who played him in The Hunt for Red October, Harrison Ford, who played him in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, and Ben Affleck, who played him in The Sum of All Fears.
John Krasinski as the new Jack Ryan, I’m totally on board for that, i wonder how long it will take me to not call him Jim Halpert. 🙂

Over the course of the novels, Jack Ryan went from being an operative of the CIA to its director, and he even progressed to President of the United States.
The plot of the Amazon TV series will not be a direct adaptation of a book from the Tom Clancy saga, although it is inspired by them. Instead, the series will focus on Jack Ryan in his earlier days with the CIA.
John Krasinski will be reunited with Michael Bay, who directed 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, and who will be an executive producer on the new series. Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland of the TV series Lost are also executive producers.
Presently, no official dates have been revealed as to when the Ryan series will air.
