Since Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl’s solo performance at the Oscars on Sunday, rumors have been swirling about the possibility of the band’s breakup. The gossip started with a short article by the tabloid paper the New York Post on Sunday.
The New York Post claims a “source” gave them inside information on Dave Grohl going solo much to drummer Taylor Hawkins’ annoyance. Supposedly there was tension between band members after their latest EP Saint Cecilia. Their hiatus from performing and recording together, which was announced on their website, was interpreted instead as a cover for their disdain for one another.
While any die hard Foo Fighters fan knows the band is like a family and often goes on breaks between albums to play with their respective side projects, the media seemed to ignore that fact in favor of controversy. So, Dave Grohl and the rest of the Foo Fighters decided to play along and post a mysterious tweet Tuesday night, which only fueled the fire.
Official band announcement tomorrow night. Stay tuned.

Major music outlets like Spin and NME reported on the story with headlines like “Foo Fighters to Break Up, As Dave Grohl Launches Solo Career?” and featured speculations on what the announcement could actually be.
And then, Wednesday night, the announcement came in the form of a YouTube link on Twitter. The seven minute long parody video starts off with some of the break up headlines that were published in the last few days along with footage from the red carpet at the Oscars where Taylor Hawkins mentions “We need a break.”
Dave Grohl then talks to producer Butch Vig about doing his own thing and attempts to make an electronic track using “one finger” on a keyboard while the band thinks of singers to replace him. We won’t give away who they choose, but let’s just say, think boyband.
Dave Grohl is known for his sense of humor and this video further proves how he doesn’t take things to heart. The video ends with an statement from the band saying “For the millionth time, we’re not breaking up. And nobody’s going f***ing solo!” Straight from the horse’s mouth, folks.
