Ed Sheeran gave a 13-year-old fan the surprise of her life yesterday, spontaneously joining the aspiring singer on stage at a Canadian shopping mall.
Sydney Bourbeau was halfway through singing Ed’s hit “Thinking Out Loud” on stage in front of a small audience at West Edmonton Mall. She didn’t realize he was at the mall and could hear her.
Ed was filmed walking out of a HMV store, with Sydney’s singing in the background. When asked what was happening he grinned and said “I’m just going to sing,” and then asked, “Shall I just roll up?”
He strolled, still smiling, up to the stage to squeals of delight from the crowd.
Ed then went on to sing through a verse of the song with Sydney, who despite her shock and excitement managed to keep it together and keep singing. She hugged him before he walked off as casually as he had walked on.
Sydney has been a fan of Ed Sheeran for the last four years and was singing to raise money for charity. Ed later got his manager to text her with an offer of two tickets to his performance at the Rexall Place arena.
Known for being down-to-earth, Ed is now developing a reputation for being the ‘nicest guy on the planet.’ He has surprised fans before, including on a larger scale – joining Sam Smith on stage last year at a Royal Albert Hall, London performance.
Ed is currently touring Canada and the US with over 30 more concert dates planned.
