Is this a movie premiere…for ants?

Thursday evening, a Guinness World Records adjudicator was standing by as Ben Stiller and the cast of Zoolander 2 attempted to set a selfie stick record!

During the red carpet premiere in London, Ben attempted to take a selfie from an 8.56 meter extended pole, 28 feet in the air, as fans and paparazzi looked on anxiously.

Video from the attempt was posted on the BBC Newsbeat, which shows Ben precariously extending the pole as it wobbles and bends backwards. Meanwhile, he still managed to maintain his Blue Steel look, very much in character.

Aside from Ben, the record breaking selfie included Zoolander 2 stars Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, Penelope Cruz, and Owen Wilson, along with other big celebrities like Star Wars: The Force Awakens actors Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver.

Missing from the photo was the late David Bowie who had a cameo appearance in the first Zoolander as a judge during Derek and Hans’ Walk Off scene. Ben Stiller paid tribute to the legendary musician and actor at last night’s premiere with moving comments about Bowie’s legacy.

“He was a huge influence on so many people, I think on our culture, in the last 40, 50 years – when you go back and look at how long he was making music and how ahead of the curve he always was and always taking chances. So I think I’m like everyone else – influenced by him in that way. And it would have been great to have him in the second one, but having him in the first was a very special thing, and I will always cherish that.”

Although the world record setting selfie was clearly a publicity stunt for the film, it will likely be a huge money maker as well. Ellen Degeneres’ 2014 Oscar selfie was reportedly worth over $1 million.

Zoolander 2 hits US theaters on February 12th and includes cameos from Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Justin Bieber, and Demi Lovato.
