Zac Efron, star of movies High School Musical and Neighbors, is set to join actor/wrestler Dwayne Johnson (also known as ‘The Rock’) in an upcoming Baywatch Movie!

The original TV series of Baywatch famously starred David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson and ran for a decade from 1989. It was an action drama series geared around a team of attractive lifeguards in red swimwear, their personal relationships, and beach-related danger plots.

Although the original series could be described as “light” in its tone, the movie version is set to be R rated and has been described as “big, real and raw.” It also could draw on Zac’s comedic skills though as it is classed as a comedy in the style of 21 Jump Street.

In the movie, Zac (27) will play a hothead who teams up with a very serious lifeguard (played by Dwayne) to save the beach from environmental destruction at the hands of an oil tycoon.

Baywatch will be directed by Seth Gordon of Horrible Bosses fame.

Zac has certainly had a hectic schedule lately. He has just completed the filming of Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates opposite Adam Devine and Anna Kendrick and also of We Are Your Friends, the directorial debut of Catfish TV Show cameraman and co-presenter, Max Joseph.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson (43) is known for many movies including San Andreas and The Scorpion King. His other upcoming projects include Central Intelligence (which is also an action comedy) and The Fast and the Furious 8. He recently made a Guinness World Record for taking 105 selfies with fans in three minutes to coincide with the San Andreas premiere.

Production of the Baywatch movie is expected to start in early 2016, but you can catch Zac in We Are Your Friends much sooner, on August 28, 2015.
