The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have named their new baby after three of her relatives, including the late Princess Diana.
Kensington Palace announced the name Prince William and wife Kate had chosen for the baby princess on Twitter earlier today: Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
Charlotte is the feminine form of Charles, for her grandfather and heir to the throne Prince Charles, while Elizabeth is a nod to her great grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
The name Diana honors Prince William’s mother, the beloved Lady Diana, who was Princess of Wales during her marriage to Prince Charles.
The baby’s official title is Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge.
Princess Charlotte was born in St Mary’s Hospital in London on Saturday, weighing in at 8lbs 3oz, to much celebration in the U.K.
Joining in the celebration today are gamblers who bet on Charlotte being the baby’s first name – it was a favorite with punters, along with Alice, Coral and Olivia.
Victoria and Elizabeth were also popular, while Diana was on offer at odds of 10/1.
Princess Charlotte is William and Kate’s second child and little sister to 21-month-old Prince George.
