Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. is to star in the movie remake of Pinocchio.
The 50-year-old father of three, who recently came in at number eight on Forbes’ Highest Earning Celebrities List, will play Geppetto, the woodcarver who desperately wants a child of his own.
The star is also appearing in Captain America: Civil War next May.
Pinocchio is the latest in a string of classic animations being turned into live-action films. Following the success of Cinderella, other animations to be remade in the near future includie Mulan, Bambi, Jungle Book and Beauty and The Beast.
This will actually be the 7th live-action remake to be based on the original tale of the puppet/boy whose nose grows when he tells lies!
Other versions include an unintentionally creepy version made in 1996 featuring songs by Stevie Wonder and Brian May, and a ‘Chucky’ style horror entitled Pinocchio’s Revenge!
The original draft of the latest remake has been re-written by Paul Thomas Anderson. Rumors suggest Paul may also be its director. He is famous for directing Magnolia, Inherent Vice and the award winning There Will Be Blood.
Robert Downey Jr and Paul Thomas Anderson are said to be old friends and should enjoy working on the Pinocchio project together. Robert was originally in mind for Inherent Vice but already had commitments filming Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Although the release date of Pinocchio is yet to be announced, fans of Robert Downey Jr can catch him in Captain America: Civil War on May 6 2016.
