Glee star Cory Monteith passed away almost three years ago, and Lea Michele is making sure that her former boyfriend’s memory lives on.
The actress shared to her social media account this week that she has commemorated him in the form of a “5” tattoo on her body.
Lea posted a photo to Instagram of the tattoo on her rib cage, with the caption:
“And one more.. for my Quarterback.. #5.”
Five was Corey’s football number as the character Finn Hudson on the show, where the couple met. They dated for two years before his tragic death.
Lea got her tattoo at Tattoo Seen in the Bronx, New York. She also previously wrote a song dedicated to Cory called “If You Say So,” which were the final words he said to her. This phrase also appears as a tattoo on her body.
Corey was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room in 2013 after apparently overdosing on a combination of heroin and alcohol. He had struggled with drug addiction since he was a teenager and first sought treatment at the age of 19. Corey had also admitted himself to a treatment facility the April before his death, and was thought to be clean at the time.
The “and” in Lea’s caption about the number five tattoo was following her post about a different tattoo that she got to honor her grandmother who just recently passed away. (The tattoo was a very small coffee cup on her finger.)
“I lost my beautiful grandma this week . . . She wasn’t your typical grandma. She gave me my first cup of coffee when I was 8 years old. She said something inappropriate to every boyfriend I’ve ever had. She never made pie or knit me a sweater. But she was my grandma and I loved her . . . More than anything . . . I love you Grandma.”
