Laverne Cox was spotted with a new man on her arm at the SAG Awards on Saturday night. The 31-year-old transgender star of Orange is the New Black looked very comfortable alongside Jono Freedrix, who is the owner of a Vancouver-based film and theater company called The Virtual Stage.
According to sources the two went partying together following the award show when they went to the Weinstein Company/Netflix SAG Awards after party at Sunset Tower Hotel in West Hollywood.
The two were spotted dancing, kissing, and having tons of fun together. Laverne certainly had plenty to celebrate after Orange is the New Black took home the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
Laverne and Jono have apparently known each other for a while, and he has actually worked with some of her Orange is the New Black costars in a comedy he made called Sucklepump.
Jono is also a former high school teacher and ran an award winning teen filmmaking program called Killarney Films.
On Friday Laverne attended the Entertainment Weekly event honoring the Screen Actors Guild nominees, where she spoke out about diversity.
“I think it’s a really wonderful time to be on television now, and I think what’s happening, with the SAG Awards, for example, is that there’s a number of actors of color who are nominated and queer actors and trans actors. Actually, between our show and Transparent, there’s an unprecedented number of trans actors nominated for SAG awards this year. That’s something to celebrate.”
