Country music legend and former American Idol judge Keith Urban was all set to kick off the 100th Indianapolis 500 racing event on Sunday, but had to pull out a couple of days prior due to a back injury.
The original plan was for Keith, 48, to ride alongside driver Mario Andretti in front of the pace car prior to the start of the race for a promotion called “Honda Fastest Seat in Sports.” He was not due to perform any music, but was anticipated on the red carpet alongside celebrities including Ginger Zee and Ice-T.
Lady Gaga fans were in for a treat, though, following her initial announcement on Instagram, “Gentlemen start your engines! I’m one of the family today,” as the quirky singer known for songs such as “Born This Way” and “Poker Face” revealed she would be sitting in the car with Mario Andretti.
When Mario heard the news that she would be sitting next to him instead of Keith, he joked that he may be “distracted” with Lady Gaga at his side!
Photos of Lady Gaga were posted on social media, with Gaga, notorious for her unique fashion style, wearing a blue and white race uniform as she prepared to take the place of Keith Urban.
Lady Gaga’s star appearance follows rumors that she may be about to record some new music.
The extent of Keith Urban’s back problems have not yet been disclosed; he was still enjoying the Indy 500 race, but from the comfort of his own home alongside his wife, actress Nicole Kidman.
Many of Keith’s fans posted well wishes as a response on social media.
