Katy Perry is officially the highest paid female celebrity of 2015, having made a whopping $135 million.
Katy is number 3 overall on the 2015 Forbes World’s Highest Paid Celebrities list, which features the most financially successful people in the entertainment world. Ahead of her were boxers Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquino taking the number 1 and 2 spots respectively.
Katy, who appears on the front cover of the July edition of Forbes magazine, commented on Instagram that a lot of women have previously shied away from the cover-shoot. She hopes that the front cover will be an inspiration to women and says that it’s okay to be proud of hard earned success.
“I am proud of my position as a boss, a person that runs my own company,” the 30-year-old star told Forbes.
Before accepting the offer to be on the cover of Forbes, I was told that a lot of women have previously shied away from doing it. I wondered if it was because they thought socially it would look like they were flaunting or bragging or it wasn’t a humble decision. Ladies, there is a difference between being humble and working hard to see the fruits of your labor blossom, and your dreams realized. Hopefully this cover can be an inspiration to women out there that it’s okay to be proud of hard earned success and that there is no shame in being a boss. Also… don’t think that I didn’t celebrate this moment by going straight to Taco Bell and getting my crunch wrap supreme #ontourbreak
Being no stranger to controversy, Katy is currently attempting to use $14.5 million of her earnings to purchase a Catholic convent in Los Angeles. She wants to live on the property with her mother and grandmother, sit in the meditation garden, sip green tea and find herself, but her pop persona appears to be working against her on this occasion.
Katy describes herself chiefly as an entrepreneur. A big chunk of her earnings can be credited to her 18-month long Prismatic world tour, which included a Super Bowl half-time performance viewed on TV by a record-breaking 118.5 million people!
Two of Katy’s videos (for the songs Dark Horse and Roar) have been watched 2 billion times worldwide.
Katy’s position is higher than that of rumored rival Taylor Swift, who is number 9 of the Forbes list. Other women who feature high in the list include comedian/talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and pop star Lady Gaga, while other men to make it on to the list include Garth Brooks, James Patterson and Robert Downey Jr.
