A landmark achievement in the world of social media, Katy Perry became the first person to reach 80 million Twitter followers yesterday. Twitter Music, which retweets music related tweets from around the world, congratulated the singer with a celebratory graphic.
The 31 year old pop star has been on Twitter for seven years, which is also around how long runners up Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift have also been on the site.
Taylor Swift had no kind words for Perry about the milestone, however; in fact she was remarkably silent about Perry’s achievement. Swift and Perry have butted heads on Twitter over VMA nominations, and some say the two even hate each other. Taylor Swift’s song “Bad Blood,” is reportedly about Katy Perry.
Last year, after a Rolling Stone cover story about Taylor Swift hinted at a rivalry with Perry, she responded in turn on Twitter comparing Swift to Regina George, the notorious baddy from the movie Mean Girls.
Watch out for the Regina George in sheep's clothing…

While that tweet gained a huge reaction and spawned multiple articles over the feud, Perry’s most popular tweet actually references One Direction performing on the VMA’s. It garnered a record 130,000 retweets and 75,000 likes.
It seems her fans hang on every one of her 140 character tweets, no matter what the subject. Even a tweet on Thanksgiving of a butler statue at her parents’ house had 4700 retweets and 12,000 likes.
Recently, Perry held a chat with fans on Twitter after the release of her new mobile game, Katy Perry Pop. She is also set to release a new album later this year.
