Kim Kardashian gave birth to her son and second child with Kanye West on Saturday, and now the family has released the chosen name of Saint West.
Saint was born a healthy 8 pounds one ounce despite some challenges with the birth. Kim reportedly had a challenging labor due to a condition called placenta accreta which she also struggled with during her first time giving birth to daughter North.
The condition causes the placenta to grow too deeply into the uterine wall where it remains after birth instead of following the child like it does in most cases. After North was born Kim had to have the placenta scraped out, and she knew she was at risk for it happening again with her second pregnancy since there isn’t much to do to stop it.
Prior to the birth Kim had revealed that Saint was breach, which means he was feet first instead of head first which is the preferred birth position.
She went through an agonizing procedure to turn him around in the right direction to prepare for birth and therefore cut down on the chances of needed a c-section.
The West family has been preparing to welcome the new baby into the world for quite some time, and it sounds like some of that prep was warming North up to the idea.
“We talk about baby brother all the time. She’s so sweet and yesterday she said, ‘Mommy, can I give baby brother a kiss on your tummy?’ and she kissed my stomach. She’s super sweet. She has a hard time when I hold other babies but she’s been getting a little bit better and I’m hoping that with her brother it’s a whole new experience.”
Most of the Kardashian clan was nearby for the birth, and mother are son are both reportedly doing well.
