Kanye West recently treated Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson to a private performance over the phone.

The 38-year-old rapper, who last month announced his intention to run for president himself in 2020, has come out in strong support of Dr. Carson, praising him as “the most brilliant guy.”

Kanye recently spoke to the retired neurosurgeon on the phone, in what Dr. Carson’s business manager Armstrong Williams says was a 45-minute conversation — mostly about Kanye.

“It was a fun conversation,” Williams said. “Kanye was singing and rapping on the phone.”

“Kanye mostly talked about himself. He rapped — he was introducing Dr. Carson to his lyrics and what he raps about.”

But Kanye kept his notoriously foul language in check.

“It was clean rap; his lyrics were all clean,” said Williams.

Kanye, who was recently hailed by another Republican presidential candidate you may have heard of (Donald Trump) as a genius, told Vanity Fair that the phone call took a while to organize.

“As soon as I heard [Ben] Carson speak, I tried for three weeks to get on the phone with him,” he told the magazine. “I was like, ‘This is the most brilliant guy.’”

The star also talked about the journey ahead of him towards running for president.

“I sit in clubs and I’m like, ‘Wow, I’ve got five years before I go and run for office and I’ve got a lot of research to do, I’ve got a lot of growing up to do.”
