Hugh Jackman, who is known for his hero role of Wolverine in the X-men movies, became a real life hero this weekend as he assisted a rescue at Sydney Australia’s Bondi Beach.

His teenage son, Oscar, had been pulled out by the strong current and had been rescued by lifeguards after Hugh had pulled his daughter from the current, while aided by another swimmer.

The water had been calm just 20 minutes earlier and had suddenly crept up. Hugh also pulled other struggling swimmers calmly on to the sandbar.

Dann Conn, a local, described Hugh Jackman as “pretty cool, calm and collected” throughout the incident.

Video footage of the rescue by Hugh Jackman of swimmers to shore is set to become viral.

The North Bondi Surf Lifesaving Club expressed their gratitude on social media to Hugh and also to Patrol 13 who despite the limitation of their roster of 12 patrolling members, completed a total of 43 rescues.

They went on to announce the beach was closed due to “dangerous conditions, multiple rescues happening all at once and limited resources.”

WELL DONE to Patrol 13 captained by Rosie Taliano & Tom Bunting this afternoon who completed 43 rescues in total with only a limited 12 patrolling members rostered on. There were also 3 rescues in the morning completed by Patrol 10. A big THANK YOU to Waverley Duty Officers, @brontesurfclub, @bondisblsc, @bondilifeguards and @surfrescue30 for your extra assistance. The beach had to be closed due to dangerous conditions, multiple rescues happening all at once and limited resources. @thehughjackman was also spotted assisting with rescues! Hugh had also warned about danger in February on social media, on that occasion about going out in the sun without protection, as he was having his fifth skin cancer removed from his nose with surgery.

This isn’t the first time a star of a superhero movie has been involved in a rescue this year as actor Jamie Foxx — who played Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and is perhaps best known for his Oscar winning portrayal of Ray Charles in the movie Raypulled a man from a burning car back in January, assisted by an off-duty paramedic, moments before it became engulfed in flames!

Hugh Jackman has starred in over thirty movies. His most recent role is Brosnan Peary in the British-American Bio/Comedy-Drama movie Eddie The Eagle.
