Ed Sheeran, who has recently earned the nickname of ‘the nicest guy on the planet’, is to demonstrate his acting abilities by starring as Sir Cormac, a deadly and ambitious character in forthcoming drama The Bastard Executioner which launches this fall.
The series, described by Ed as, “really dark with blood and guts” is set in medieval times. It tells the tale of a 14th century warrior whose life is changed by a divine messenger. The set for the series is being constructed as a medieval village containing a small castle near Cardiff in Wales. The show is one of the first to be made at the new Pinewood Studios facility in Cardiff.
Ed is hoping to surprise people by being in a gruesome show, as he knows people will be expecting his next role to be completely different. As well as his ‘nice guy’ reputation, his previous acting credits include a cameo in the sitcom Undateable, and he recently took time out of the Australian leg of his tour to appear in their soap Home and Away! In both roles he starred as himself.
Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is behind the series. The cast will also include Kurt’s wife, actress Katey Sagal, who has also starred in shows including Married with Children, Lost and Sons of Anarchy.
Kurt first became friendly with Ed Sheeran when Ed tweeted him to compliment him about Sons of Anarchy. For the final series of the popular biking drama, Kurt asked Ed to record a cover-version of the song “Make it Rain” (originally by Foy Vance.) Kurt is excited to have Ed involved in the project and has described him as a “legend.”
