DJ and singer Calvin Harris picked up a new title at last night’s Glamour Women of the Year Awards, being named Man of the Year.
Model/actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (who co-stars in Mad Max: Fury Rd) presented Calvin with his award. As he accepted it, the Scottish native said he was nervous.
“But my mum will be so proud to have birthed a man of the year, so it was worth the trip for that alone.”
He finished by saying that as the only man to win an award at the ceremony, it was his responsibility to give a speech that was “a bit sh*t, so I’ll leave it at that.”
The 31-year-old wrote in an Instagram caption afterwards that the win was “unexpected.”
Calvin, who is currently dating singer Taylor Swift, narrowly avoided having to face his ex at the ceremony.
Rita Ora (who is a coach on British TV show The Voice) won the award for Best TV Personality, but wasn’t present at the London ceremony and accepted her award via a video link set-up. That could have been awkward!
Singer Ellie Goulding, who won the Cointreau Solo Artist award, said that she would happily go on a double-date with Taylor and Calvin, bringing her boyfriend of one year, Dougie Poynter of McBusted fame, along!
Another big name to receive an award was actress Kate Hudson, who was named Entrepreneur of the Year for her premium sportswear brand. Her mother (actress/director) Goldie Hawn was very proud of her daughter, describing her as “amazing.”
British actress Felicity Jones took the award for Film Actress of the Year for her role in the movie The Theory of Everything as Stephen Hawking’s first wife, Jane. She is poised for a big year in 2015 with another three movies all set to be released.
Other award winners include Scandal’s Kerry Washington who won International TV Actress, Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting who took the Comedy Actress gong, Greek designer Mary Katrantzou, who won the Clothes Designer award, and Comedian Amy Schumer, who collected the Trailblazer prize and made the audience laugh with her wild sense of humor!
