Beyonce has had an activewear line in the works with Topshop for quite some time, and the line (which was supposed to be released this fall) finally has an official launch date of April 2016.
The collaboration was first announced last October, and has been described as a “global athletic street-wear brand.” In the current fashion landscape, this is often referred to as athleisure for the style’s ability to cross the line between literal athletic wear and casual leisure wear.
However “collaboration” might not be the right word at all, since the teaming up will basically be a brand of itself, called Parkwood Topshop Athletic Ltd. The name Parkwood comes from Parkwood Entertainment, which is the company that Beyonce started in 2008 when she decided to manage herself.
The brand will reportedly include items across the fitness, dance, and sports categories that provide real functionality but are also relevant in the fashion sense. The line will include clothing, footwear, and accessories.
Beyonce spoke out about the collaboration, saying:
“I could not think of a better partner as I continue to grow the Parkwood business. I have always loved Topshop for their fashion credentials and forward thinking. Working with their development team to create and produce a technical and fashion led collection is exciting and I’m looking forward to participating in all aspects of this partnership.”
Beyonce has been spotted wearing Topshop items on multiple occasions. This will be Topshop’s first venture into athletic wear, and who could think of a more active woman than Beyonce to build the brand with.
