Number one hits aren’t exactly new to Adele (she’s had four), but her newest single “Hello” is positioned to out rank her previous hits and set records as it goes.
The song is only one of 34 songs to debut in the Billboard 100’s number one spot, and within its first week it has sold more than any other song ever.
The first seven days that “Hello” was on sale it sold 1.1 million download copies, which makes it the first record to go platinum in a week’s time. The previous record holder of that spot was Flo Rida with “Right Round”, which had taken the top spot with 650,000 sales. Meaning, she not only beat the record but she did it pretty intensely.

Adele has had three other songs top the Hot 100 list: “Rolling In The Deep”, “Someone Like You”, and “Set Fire To The Rain”, all from her album 21. All three of those songs stayed in the top spot for over a week.
“Hello” has also been played over 200 million times and climbing on YouTube, and can be expected to be quite the radio hit for some time. The last song to debut in the number one spot was Justin Bieber’s “What Do You Mean” earlier this year.
Funny enough, Adele’s “Hello” is not the first “Hello” to debut at number one…Lionel Richie’s 1984 hit by the same name did as well.
“Hello” is first single to be dropped off of Adele’s highly anticipated album 25, which will be released later in the month.
