It sounds like there could be an Adele and Lionel Richie project in progress as both artists have expressed their desire to collaborate.
During a broadcast of the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw, Adele put in her own two cents saying, “We’ve definitely got to do something, me and Lionel.”
This week, in an interview with E! News during an Art Basel kickoff party in Miami, Lionel revealed an Adele collaboration is a definite possibility.
“We are going to be doing something together—that’s already almost in the works…I can almost say that we are talking, but right now she has a mission,” Lionel gushed.
The mission he speaks of is surely the promotion of Adele’s new album, which will include a world tour starting in February. In fact, both artists are going on tour in 2016, with Lionel stopping in the UK for nine dates.
When Adele’s video for “Hello” was released on YouTube in October, fans had a field day mashing it up with the Lionel’s song of the same name. Lionel’s “Hello” was released in 1983 on his album Can’t Slow Down.
A twelve second clip published by YouTube channel BlendTV, shows Adele calling up Lionel and then hanging up on him, using clips from both artists’ music videos.
Lionel responded as most celebrities do these days, via social media. A split image of himself and Adele talking into their respective phones was posted on his Instagram account along with the actual mashup video.
So, will there be an Adele/Lionel Richie duet during either artist’s tour? “If I jump on her stage, [they’d] probably throw me out,” Lionel joked to E! News.
Only time will tell if such a collaboration will actually occur. Perhaps the world will get their wish during a certain awards show in February.
