Despite how it may seem, not every celebrity out there is famous from 18 on-wards. Actually, a lot of celebrities aren’t recognized for their talents until much later. We call them late bloomers, but we only feel like they’ve come into their own late because of the exposure the younger crowd gets; Hollywood is obsessed with youth. You’ll be surprised to learn that some of your favorite celebs were well out of their teens (and 20s, for the most part) when they hit the big time.

1. Jane Lynch

Jane Lynch has a very impressive resume, but her early roles in film and on television were nothing compared to the success she was aiming for when she started out. Jane finally hit it big at 49 years of age in 2009, when she starred as Sue Sylvester, the quirky and hardcore coach of the cheer leading squad on Glee. Her role on the TV musical landed her tons of awards and nominations, including Golden Globe, People’s Choice, Primetime Emmy, and SAG awards. I bet she never expected to be receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but she did in 2013. Not bad for a 50-something, huh?
